NEW YORK | Braden Holtby is starting for the Washington Capitals on Saturday night and recently recalled goaltender Dany Sabourin is backing up at the New York Rangers.
That’s what we know. What we don’t know is whether Michal Neuvirth will be healthy enough to play some role for the Caps when the playoffs start next week. He saw a doctor Friday, but coach Dale Hunter offered nothing in the form of any real update.
“He’s just day-to-day,” Hunter said. “It’s not bad.”
Neuvirth appeared to injure his upper left leg or vicinity Thursday night when Marco Sturm fell on him. Asked if Neuvirth would skate Monday, Hunter said: “We don’t know yet.”
Neuvirth did not make the trip to New York with the team but did off-ice work Saturday back at the team’s practice facility, a team spokesman said.
Sabourin told Tim Leone of the Patriot-News in Harrisburg that he was going up to the Caps for Saturday night but would be back with the Hershey Bears on Sunday before seeing what happened.
