NEW YORK | While Alex Ovechkin’s charging hit on Dan Girardi drew a penalty and some (justified) attention given the Washington Capitals captain’s history, the New York Rangers defenseman was involved in a hit with Matt Hendricks in Game 4 as well.
At the 8:25 mark of the second period, Hendricks made a tap pass up ice to Brooks Laich when Girardi bowled him over. Perhaps the hit was a half-second late, but teammates didn’t sound outraged about it and Hendricks brushed off the conversation.
“Yeah, I don’t know,” he said. “I think you guys make more of it than we do.”
Girardi did not get a penalty on the play.
