Alex Ovechkin has an endorsement deal with Gillette that provides him a nicely shaved playoff goatee in the springtime. But that doesn’t affect his hair, which is usually longer and moppy.
Not anymore. Ovechkin showed off a new, shorter cut at the Washington Capitals’ practice facility Tuesday, one that he debuted in a Twitter post Monday.
So why the change?
“Just a personal reason,” Ovechkin said. “I’m one of the soldiers on the NHLPA.”
Ovechkin made some strong comments regarding the uncertain labor situation, saying that he and other players will not accept large pay cuts and would consider playing elsewhere if that happens. (Much more on that to come).
As for his captain’s haircut, general manager George McPhee was on board and said parents of Ovechkin fans will be, too.
“The kids that want to be Ovi are going to get the tennis ball look,” McPhee said. “That’s a good-looking haircut.”
