Outfielder Laynce Nix is drawing interest from a number of teams and the former National could make a decision as early as next week's winter meetings, a source said. The Nationals are among "several teams" who are interested in Nix's services and Nix's representation has had ongoing discussions with Nationals GM Mike Rizzo, talking as recently as this past weekend. The Winter Meetings are officially less than five days away but the hot stove speculation and rumor mill is already clicking it's way into high gear. As the Nationals remain focused on their top two offseason targets -- a starting pitcher and a center fielder -- Nationals general manager has now made two in-person visits to a top target in each category. Included in an update yesterday about the Nationals players who were participating in the Caribbean Winter Leagues, were first baseman Chris Marrero's numbers: .288 average, .387 on-base percentage, .327 slugging percentage. He wasn't blowing the top off the Dominican Winter League but he was putting together a nice season. He hadn't, however, played in a game since Nov. 15. That could have been for a number of reasons -- especially since a lot of U.S. players take some time off to go home for holidays. Turns out it was due to a torn hamstring, an injury suffered two weeks ago while playing for the Tigres de Licey, and underwent surgery in Washington recently, as a report from MLB.com late Monday night stated and was confirmed this morning.
