Coach Mike Shanahan said Tuesday the Redskins’ decision to release Chris Cooley was an accommodation of Cooley’s desire to start for an NFL team.
“I just thought, in fairness to him and what he’s done for this organization and what he’s meant, that we surely shouldn’t have to wait until the end to make our final decision if that is something that he would like to do before the end of this season, even though it could put us in a tough situation if we do lose one or two guys. But I think he has earned that right,” Shanahan said.
Shanahan declined to answer some of our questions, and I left his news conference with a sense that we need more answers about this.
