PICKET: Obama blows U.N. photo op

MSNBC posted an interesting group photo of leaders from various nations at the Open Government Partnership event at the United Nations on Tuesday in New York City. The White House is probably not happy now.

It’s not difficult to find President Barack Obama, as he is the only one waving to the camera. Who knows? Maybe the other leaders played a prank and all planned on waving at the same time and then left Mr. Obama waving by himself, while they snickered amongst themselves towards the camera. Highly unlikely, I’m sure…but funny to them, if it was a true scenario. Unfortunately, the President of Mongolia’s face was obscured by Mr. Obama’s friendly hand gesture.

A number of photos were obviously taken. More than likely, Mr. Obama was not waving in those pictures. For some reason, though, this one was chosen to post on MSNBC’s website.

Whatever the reason for Mr. Obama’s right hand hanging out prominently in this photo, however, Rich Shulman at MSNBC writes:

I don’t know much about diplomatic protocols, but I would guess that waving during the group photo is something to avoid.

The UN’s General Assembly began today and includes leaders from around the world.
