Djokovic awarded Serbia’s top honor from president

BELGRADE, SERBIA (AP) - Novak Djokovic has been awarded the top state honor in Serbia.

President Boris Tadic has decorated the tennis great with the Karadjordjeva Star Medal, the highest honor in the Balkan country.

Tadic said on Tuesday Djokovic deserves the medal for “special merits in representing Serbia.” Djokovic was the world’s top-ranked player, and winner of the last three Grand Slams.

Djokovic will formally receive the medal at a ceremony on Wednesday marking Serbia’s statehood day.
