Rangers facing cuts to squad to ensure survival

GLASGOW, SCOTLAND (AP) - The financiers trying to save Scottish champion Rangers have talked to the players about possible cuts to the roster.

The team, which includes Americans Carlos Bocanegra, Maurice Edu and Alejando Bedoya, has been told it will be paid on time.

The Glasgow club was forced to seek bankruptcy protection Tuesday because of tax debts of $14 million accrued in nine months. But the administrators say they have already received “several expressions of interest” from people looking at investing.

Joint administrators Paul Clark met the players and manager Ally McCoist on Thursday.

Clark says he told them a “review of staffing, including playing staff, would be necessary as part of the process.”
