Blue Jackets sign Ryan Murray to entry-level deal

COLUMBUS, OHIO (AP) - The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Ryan Murray to a three-year, entry-level contract with the team.

The Blue Jackets made the announcement Tuesday. The 18-year-old Murray, who was the second overall pick in last month’s NHL Draft, was the team’s first pick.

Murray had nine goals and 31 points with 31 penalty minutes in 46 games with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League in 2011-12. He was the team’s Rookie of the Year in 2009-10.

Murray is from White City, Saskatchewan, in Canada.
