LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Rights for all - except the unborn

As we celebrate our nation’s independence, I can’t help but be angry that not all human beings have the right to life. After all, our Declaration of Independence clearly states that we all have been endowed with this right by our Creator.

In 1973, when the infamous Roe v. Wade decision was rendered, the Supreme Court might not have been aware that life starts at conception, but in subsequent years, science has proved unquestionably that it does. So with our lawmakers knowing this scientific fact, how do they get away with violating the Constitution? How can they discriminate against the unborn, who are treated as nonpersons, much as slaves were regarded in centuries past?

With the unborn being deprived of their right to life and with our religious freedom under assault by the current administration, it’s puzzling how many people fall for the notion that we are the “land of the free.” We are fast becoming the land of the oppressed.

President Obama shouldn’t invoke God’s blessing on the United States when it is he who has waged war on the unborn and religious freedom. It is he who is leading the war on religion and is forcing us to violate our consciences. I have news for him: “We must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29).
